The new College Fields track proved a
challenge for most, but the winning General Mills team led
by David White shot an incredible 15-under par 56 in the
scramble event. The runner-up was determined by a scorecard
playoff between four teams with next-best scores of
10-under, 61 including the L&L Food Centers/SUPERVALU group
that won in 2006. The eventual playoff winner and Second
Place team was the Crossmark #1 group that included Mike
Keller, Mark Apsey, Pat Wellington and Mark Marshall of
American-Italian Pasta Company.

First Place Team:
General Mills' David White (third from

and Pat Thiede.
MGA Chairman Warren Disch took a few
moments to thank the sponsors, participants and association
staff for their contributions and urged those in attendance
to make plans to attend MGA’s fall conference at Grand
Traverse Resort, September 9-11.
Anchored by Double-Eagle Sponsors, Country
Fresh, The Pepsi Bottling Group, and SUPERVALU-Central
Region, the MGA outing was fortunate to have many sponsors
and prize donors. See the complete list at right..
After-golf gift bags included Labatt Blue driver covers,
golf balls from BUNZL, Budweiser tees and ball markers, long
tees from Crystal Mountain Resort, chocolate-covered dried
Traverse City cherries and other items to get golfers
thinking about the MGA fall conference.
Lansing-based MGA member L&L Food Centers
catered the golfers’ lunch and 19th Hole hors d’oeuvres. The
Texas-style smoked brisket, fajita chicken, grilled brats
and salads were a pleasant departure from normal golf outing
fare.
In its 20-year history, the Michigan
Grocers outing has raised nearly a half-million dollars to
support the association’s legislative education programs,
including more than $30,000 raised at this year’s event.
